On Thursday 28th November Cllr Fielding spoke to a room of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) professionals at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester about the importance of promoting the study of the subjects in schools and higher and further education. Drawing on his own background as an engineer at Sellafield nuclear power station, Cllr Fielding highlighted the critical role of these skills in the future of Oldham and Greater Manchester, with health innovation, digital, and advanced manufacturing amongst our key growth sectors.
After Cllr Fielding’s speech he chaired further contributions from leading businesses in the STEM sector, before Mayor Andy Burnham and Dame Mary Archer from the Science Museum Group signed a concordant committing the GMCA and Science and Industry Museum to working together in support of the GM Local Industrial Strategy.
