Oldham Greenbelt
Oldham Greenbelt

Big reductions in GMSF greenbelt sites – Failsworth (Woodhouses reduced to just 30 homes on previously developed land); Royton (Thornham Old Road removed); St James’ (Spinners Way removed) and Medlock Vale (Bardsley Vale removed), Crompton (Kingsway South removed) – will be announced.

We are delighted to be able to confirm all this before the final proposed GMSF is published on the 5th October.

Two major initiatives have made this possible:
1. The new Town Centre vision has increased the number of homes on brownfield sites to 2,500
2. A Mills Strategy to find new uses for mills while preserving our heritage will deliver 800 homes in the plan period

Both policies have been delivered after pressure from Labour Councillors who wanted to make sure that a Brownfield First policy for development was made a reality and much needed homes are built on previously developed land wherever possible.

We have worked very hard in the last 18 months to find a way of reducing the impact on Oldham’s Greenbelt. We listened to all the suggestions made in response to previous consultation and the concerns that many of you raised with us.
