Cllr Abdul Jabbar MBE
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Low Carbon
Councillor Abdul Jabbar MBE is the Deputy Leader of Oldham Council. With nearly 30 years’ experience as a councillor, he has been the council’s Cabinet Member for Finance since 2011 and is also responsible for Oldham’s Climate Change Strategy.
Councillor Jabbar has been an elected councillor for Coldhurst ward since 1994 and in 2004 he became the youngest ever Mayor of Oldham and was later named Mayor of the Year.
He is a senior councillor who has held many different positions within the council. He is also the Chairman of Northern Roots which he helped to create. Cllr Jabbar has worked with his other ward colleagues to improve quality of lives for residents. Recently, he secured funding for number of community projects including an outdoor gym at Berrisfield. He believes everyone should have access good quality housing and helped to secured Labour’s plan to build 2000 new homes in the town Centre.
