Cllr Eddie Moores
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People
Cllr Moores has cabinet responsibility for children and young people. His portfolio includes adoption and fostering, children in care, child safeguarding and children’s health and wellbeing. His portfolio deputy, focused on Early Years, is Cllr Valerie Leach.
Eddie represents the Chadderton Central ward. He and his wife Kath have lived in Chadderton for over 40 years. During this period they have raised their own family, been Foster Parents and spent 8 years as House Parents in a group home in Manchester.
Eddie spent his working life in the rail industry holding a variety of technical and managerial roles.
When his children were young Eddie became involved with the Friends of Mills Hill School in a fundraising capacity, he then became a governor at the school and is currently Chair of the Governing Body. He thoroughly enjoys the role of a school governor and he is now Chair of the Governing Body at the Blue Coat School and a member of the Radclyffe School Governing Body. Eddie also works with a number of other organisations. He is a Trustee of the Oldham Enterprise Trust, Director of the Cranmer Education Trust, he represents Oldham Council on the Henshaw Education Trust and is the Greater Manchester appointed Governor of the Christie Hospital.
Eddie understands the importance of ensuring that children have the best possible start in life, and that we need to equip young people with the skills and knowledge they need for their future life. He has been a Member of Oldham Council since 2011. During this period, he has held several posts and is values the opportunity to put his previous experience to good use in his current role.
