The Learning Lounge was officially welcomed on the 7th July to South Failsworth Primary School by Oldham Mayor and Failsworth West Councillor, Elaine Garry.

The old school bus has been transformed into a library, relaxed reading area and sensory space thanks to the PTA at the school which came up with the idea and started the work to transform it. The library will be used by all the children from Nursery through to Year 6 and the sensory area by all SEN children who attend the school. The PTA wants the space to promote wellbeing, togetherness with the local community and to provide a new and exciting learning space for the children to enjoy.

The project has been paid for by the Oldham Council who granted £4,000 and Norman Briggs who stood down as Labour’s Failsworth East Councillor in May, but not before giving £1,000 from his Councillor’s budget.

The school presented the Council with an appreciation award at the naming ceremony.

Councillor Garry said “I was delighted when the school PTA reached out to me asking me to help them secure funding for this wonderful addition to the school. The now named Learning Lounge will provide a serene area for SEN children to learn and relax. By school, PTA, Council and Councillors working together on this project we have produced a unique classroom for all the children”.
