My name is Nazrul Islam, and I’m proud to serve as a Labour councillor for Chadderton Central on Oldham Council. I currently serve as the Deputy Cabinet Member for Get Oldham Working — a role focused on helping people access employment, training, and new opportunities across our borough.

This community holds great significance for me — not only in my role as a councillor, but also as a long-standing resident, neighbour, and local business owner. For over two decades, I have been deeply committed to public service and community life across Oldham, supporting local charities, assisting residents, and working tirelessly to enhance the quality of life and opportunities for all who call our area home.

My background in business, particularly in mortgages and local enterprise, has shaped my understanding of economic challenges and the importance of giving people the tools they need to build secure futures. That’s why I’m so passionate about tackling inequality, supporting working families, and making sure young people have real pathways to jobs, education, and success.

My Priorities as Your Councillor

As your elected representative, I’m committed to:

  • Building more affordable, quality housing and tackling homelessness
  • Creating jobs, apprenticeships, and skills opportunities for young people
  • Working with police and community groups to improve safety and reduce crime
  • Supporting efforts to end food poverty and protect our most vulnerable residents
  • Ensuring local services are fair, transparent, and responsive

I believe in a council that listens, responds, and delivers — not just during election time, but every single day.

My Work on Oldham Council

I’m actively involved in council business through roles on the Licensing Committee, the Planning Committee (as a substitute member), and the Licensing Driver Panel. I also support casework and campaigns across Chadderton alongside fellow councillors Mohon Ali and Elaine Taylor.

From securing community safety gates to improving roads like Burnley Lane, and from tackling antisocial behaviour, I aim to be visible, approachable, and effective in everything I do.

I also regularly hold ward surgeries at the Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, where residents can speak to me directly about any local issues or concerns.
