Limeside Park will have a £38,650 makeover to resurface the existing multiple games area and add a ball stop fence. Along with tree and shrub planting the improvements will create a new activity space to encourage more creative play and exercise. The work is aimed to deter anti-social behaviour, provide better games facilities and encourage use of the park by the local community.

Councillor Kyle Phythian said ‘Limeside Park should be well used by the local community. This upgrade will improve the games area as well as making the park a nicer place to spend time in. We are also improving the drainage as some areas get very muddy. I am really pleased we have been able to get such a big investment in Limeside.’                                  ‘

Funding has also been secured to tackle complaints of speeding on Pretoria Road. £10,000 will pay for 3 sets of speed cushions and the signs and advertising needed to put the scheme in place

Councillor Hannah Roberts commented ‘ Pretoria Road residents have complained to us about anti-social driving on the street and speed cushions are the recommended way to tackle this. We will carry out door to door consultation with residents about the scheme before any work is done. A Traffic Regulation Order will also be needed for the scheme to go ahead. I hope that residents will support the proposal which is designed to deal with the concerns raised with us.’

Residents of Vicarage Street have also complained about the state of land at the end of the street and the impact this has on the local environment. The successful bid by Hollinwood Councillors will tidy up the land, remove dangerous/damaged material and an illegal fence. Trees will be planted and benches put in creating a pleasant green space for local families.

Councillor Williams added ‘Vicarage Street is a dead end with a commercial garage at the end and the state of this piece of land brings down the quality of life for residents. Our scheme will improve the area and create an open space for the community to use.’

Councillor Phythian commented ‘I’m really please these bids have been successful and three areas in Hollinwood Ward will benefit. The Local Improvement Fund is a Labour initiative to improve local areas. We are always keen to hear ideas from local residents for this kind of small scale scheme to make life better for them and their neighbours’
