Labour Candidate for Saddleworth West & Lees

Dave Barter - Labour Candidate for Saddleworth West & Lees

Dave Barter has lived in Lees for seven years, having previously lived in Manchester where he was the chair of his local residents’ association.  He has a particular interest in education, including for children with additional needs, having worked in Oldham from 1992 to 2013 teaching mathematics and supporting schools with ICT and their quality of education, during which time he was a governor of two Oldham schools.  Dave is active in the National Education Union, and was previously president of Oldham NUT.

Dave is currently secretary of Lees Labour Party, through which he has helped organise Saddleworth and Lees fundraising for foodbanks, as well as local opportunities to support Ukrainian refugees and the Ukrainian resistance to the Russian invasion.

He says, “I am standing for Labour in this election because the thing we need most in Lees is a change of government – we need a Labour Government to undo the damage of the past 13 years and restore integrity to public life.  We need a strengthened Labour council in Oldham more than ever to provide the best services possible in these conditions, with Labour councillors as the advocates for their local communities – whether on traffic calming, congestion around schools, rights of way, or any other issues where people need the support of their local councillors.”
