The Labour Party has slammed the Oldham Conservative Party for being out of touch and lacking ambition for Oldham and Oldhamers.

As the local elections draw closer the Oldham Tories are coming into criticism for being opaque about their plans for the Borough. Literature seen by the Oldham Labour Party being distributed by the local Tories says nothing about how they would make Oldham a better place.

The leaflet comes of the back of previous criticism from Oldham Tories of Labour’s plans for the future of the town;

• Opposing Labour’s £1million community grant to Oldham Athletic to invest in a state-of-the-art pitch, which would allow Oldham Rugby League FC to play there and be available to community groups;
• Opposing Labour’s town centre regeneration, which will include a new home for Tommyfield Market; and
• Attempting to remove the protection Labour had secured for our green spaces, which would have left them exposed to potential development.

They are even standing a candidate in St James ward who has publicly criticised Labour’s plans for a new theatre, claiming that the “closure of the Coliseum was well overdue and will be no great loss to us at all”.

Cllr Amanda Chadderton said, “I always knew that the local Tories had no ambition and no plans for Oldham but I didn’t expect them to publicly admit that they’ve got nothing to offer the people of Oldham except lies and undeliverable promises.”

“They’ve got absolutely nothing to offer apart from constant negativity about our great town. I love Oldham, the Labour Party loves Oldham and we’re all immensely proud to be working together to build a better Oldham.”
